My artwork is all about self discovery. Who am I relative to the subject? The gaze of the subject on the canvas becomes another part of me looking back at myself. I'm often surprised by what I paint and take both the roles of painter and viewer having my own perception bent to the will of the painter. It is a meditative process that frees me to tap an unconscious side of myself. It is an intuitive process that I have to trust even when I don't always understand it. The process is hypocritical, accepting mistakes as perfection and taking from others and calling it my own. The process itself is an alternative reality that creates alternative realities. It is a dictator, producing propaganda to propel its own point of view. For me, I find success when I give in to the chaos of creation and just let the process of creating feed on its own self-indulgence. The end result is often more of a documentation of the process personified than a showcase of my abilities.
